The label at a glance

What it is called
“Made with AI”, set by the author on the post. X also applies it to some AI images itself.
Where you set it
Post composer → content disclosure → “Made with AI”. You can also set it after posting. No X help-centre article describes it.
When you need it
X’s binding rules (its Authenticity policy) do not say you must label AI content. The part that matters for a persona is “fake personas”: using AI-generated profile photos for the purpose of deceiving others.
If you skip it
X has published no penalty for leaving the label off.
Labels AI by itself?
Partly. Independent tests found that X labels some AI images itself, and that you cannot remove a label X added. X has not explained how it decides.

This row has the weakest sources in the table. The toggle has been in the composer since 2 March 2026, but X has not published a help-centre article about it. Where the toggle sits and when X adds the label itself are known from trade press and independent tests. X’s own documents mention the label only in its EU media-literacy plan.

What this means for you

X’s binding rules say nothing about labelling AI content. The part of its Authenticity policy that matters for a persona account is about “fake personas”: using AI-generated profile photos for the purpose of deceiving others. A persona that says it is AI is not covered by that clause. A persona presented as a real person is covered.

There has been a “Made with AI” label since 2 March 2026. You set it from the content disclosure option in the post composer, before or after posting. At launch it was reported as voluntary, and no penalty was published. Later that month independent tests found that X also adds the label to some AI images itself. You cannot remove a label that X added.

None of this is in an X help-centre article. That makes this page shorter than the others, and the dates more important. What to do is the same as on every other platform: set the label on persona media and say in the bio that the account is AI. The EU AI Act labelling rule applies to your content whatever X requires. X has not written a rule yet, but it can write one later.

What changed, and when

  1. X closed Creator Revenue Sharing and replaced it with Original Content Rewards

X stopped taking new members into Creator Revenue Sharing on 7 August 2026 and closed it on 7 September. The new Original Content Rewards programme opened to existing members from 8 September. It asks for a Premium subscription, 500 verified followers and 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in 90 days. It pays only for original content, and content "created or posted using automated means" does not count. X has no other AI rule for the programme apart from a 90-day suspension for undisclosed AI videos of armed conflict.

  2. X added a "Made with AI" label that creators set themselves

A switch in the post composer lets you mark a post as containing media made or changed with AI. It was voluntary at launch, and X published no penalty for leaving it off. X did not publish a help-centre article about it. How and where it applies is known from news reports and not from X.
