Facebook and AI persona accounts
On Facebook a persona belongs on a Page, not a personal profile. Realistic AI video and audio need a label. AI images do not, but Meta labels them anyway.
Use a Page, not a profile. Label realistic video.
The label at a glance
- What it is called
- Post: “AI content” (older Meta pages say “AI info”). Page or profile: “AI creator”.
- Where you set it
- Post composer → AI label → turn on “Add AI label”. For reels and stories it is in the left menu. The account label: Edit profile → AI creator, in the mobile app.
- When you need it
- Photorealistic video and realistic-sounding audio made or changed with AI. Meta does not require you to label AI images, but labels them itself when it detects them. The AI creator label is for accounts that regularly post AI-generated or modified content. The help page does not say it is required.
- If you skip it
- “There may be penalties if you do not label content as required.” Meta does not say which penalties.
- Labels AI by itself?
- Yes. Meta reads industry-standard AI signals in the file (C2PA and IPTC) and labels the post itself. You cannot opt out of that.
Facebook still calls the account label “AI creator”. On Instagram the same label became “AI-generated profile” on 31 August 2026, and Meta has not said whether Facebook will follow. Run a persona as a Facebook Page. Meta’s identity rules flag a personal profile that represents a fictional character.

What this means for you
Run the persona as a Facebook Page. Meta’s identity rules say that on Facebook it will seek more information, and may restrict or disable the account, if you create a personal profile that represents a fictional character. You can no longer create additional personal profiles at all. Pages and profiles can both carry the “AI creator” label, which tells people that the account regularly posts AI-generated or modified content.
The post label works as it does on Instagram. You have to turn on “Add AI label” for photorealistic video and realistic-sounding audio made or changed with AI, such as a reel with a realistic AI voiceover. Viewers see it as “AI content”. Meta does not require a label on AI images, but it reads the AI signals in the file and labels detected images itself. Meta says there may be penalties for a missing label and does not say which.
Facebook has no monetisation rule about AI as such. Its partner rules say you can only earn from content you created or were involved in creating, and that unoriginal content without meaningful changes cannot be monetised. Since July 2025, accounts that repeatedly reuse other people’s videos, photos or posts lose monetisation for a time and get less reach. A persona that makes its own content is on the right side of that rule.

What changed, and when
Facebook cut pay and reach for accounts that reuse other people’s content
Facebook said accounts that repeatedly reuse someone else’s videos, photos or text posts lose access to its monetisation programmes for a period of time and get reduced distribution on everything they share. A persona that posts its own generated content is not the target. Reposting other creators’ clips or trends unchanged is.
