The label at a glance

What it is called
None for your own uploads. Images made with Snap’s own AI tools may carry a ghost-with-sparkles watermark.
Where you set it
No setting. Say it yourself, in the content or on your profile.
When you need it
Snap leaves labelling to local law: you are responsible for meeting the transparency rules “in your region”. To earn money from AI content, the use of AI has to be disclosed in the content or the creator profile.
If you skip it
AI content without that disclosure does not qualify for monetisation. Accounts that use AI to break the Community Guidelines can be terminated.
Labels AI by itself?
Only for Snap’s own tools. Images made with other products “may not be labeled as AI generated”. Reading C2PA is not documented.

Since July 2026, wholly AI-generated videos are no longer eligible for recommendation on Spotlight. Snap’s ranking also favours human-made content over wholly AI-generated content made outside Snapchat, even when it is labelled.

What this means for you

Snapchat has no AI label setting for your own uploads. Its Community Guidelines leave labelling to local law: some regions require it, and you are responsible for meeting the rules where you are. Images made with Snap’s own AI tools may carry a watermark, but Snap says images made with other products may not be labelled as AI.

Earning is where the rule is concrete. Snap’s Creator Monetization Policy says content made with AI tools can be monetised if it is original, not misleading, and the use of AI is disclosed somewhere in the content or the creator profile. So write it in the profile and in the content. Deceptively manipulated AI media is not monetizable.

Reach is the bigger limit. Since July 2026, wholly AI-generated videos are no longer eligible for recommendation on Spotlight. Snap’s ranking rewards human-made content over wholly AI-generated content made outside Snapchat, even when the AI content is labelled. Content edited with Snap’s own AI tools stays eligible. Plan a fully AI persona’s reach somewhere else.

What changed, and when

  1. Snapchat’s updated monetisation policy took effect: AI content earns only when disclosed

The Creator Monetization Policy in effect from 21 September 2026 says content made with AI tools can be monetized if it is original, not misleading, and the use of AI is disclosed somewhere in the content or the creator profile. Deceptively manipulated AI media is not monetizable. Say it is AI in the profile and in the content before you count on Snapchat income.

  2. Snapchat stopped recommending wholly AI-generated videos on Spotlight

Snap said that from July 2026, wholly AI-generated videos are no longer eligible for recommendation on Spotlight. Content edited with Snapchat’s own AI tools stays eligible and carries transparency indicators. For a fully AI persona this closes the main way new people find you on Snapchat. Plan its reach on another platform.

  3. Snapchat announced a watermark for images made with its own AI tools

Snap said images made with its generative AI tools would get a small ghost logo with a sparkle icon when they are exported or saved to the camera roll. The watermark only covers Snap’s own tools. Images made elsewhere get no automatic label on Snapchat, so saying it is AI is up to you.
