In short

  • Everything you need to start an AI influencer can be free. The setup that earns money rarely is.
  • ComfyUI and Apache 2.0 models such as Z-Image-Turbo and FLUX.1 schnell are free to run for a business. You pay for the graphics card.
  • You may sell FLUX.1 dev outputs, but you need a commercial licence to run the model for a business.
  • Free credits and free testing are enough to find a look. They are not enough to build a consistent character.
  • Fanvue costs nothing up front. It takes its share from your earnings: the standard creator earning rate is 80%.

You can make an AI influencerAI influencer An AI influencer is an invented character whose photos, videos and captions are generated with AI instead of photographed. She is published, followed and monetised on the same platforms as a human creator. Read the full explanation for free, but only up to a point. That point comes sooner than most “free AI influencer” pages say. All the software and all the accounts you need to start can cost nothing. Earning money with it is rarely free. To earn, you have to run it well and stay inside the licences. For that you need a graphics card you already own, or you pay for generation.

The better question is what you can do for free. The table below shows this for each tool and account you need.

Hosted tools: free credits, then you pay per image

WaveSpeed uses a pay-per-use model with no monthly fees or commitments. Eligible new accounts receive $1 in free credits, and no credit card is required to sign up; some premium models may not be available with trial credits. Starting prices per image, which are list prices at the lowest resolution or quality: Nano Banana 2 $0.045, Seedream 5.0 Pro $0.045, Z-Image Turbo $0.005.

One dollar at half a cent per image gives you 200 images on the cheapest model. That is enough to try a few models and choose a look. Think of it as a trial. Your first real batch of images uses it up.

For Gemini 3.1 Flash Image (Nano Banana 2), the free tier lists image output as “Not available”; on the paid tier an image at 1K resolution costs $0.067. Google states that “Google AI Studio usage is free of charge in all available regions”, and its table marks free-tier use as used to improve its products and paid use as not.

Google AI for Developers — Gemini API pricing (opens in a new tab)checked

AI Studio lets you try Google’s models in a browser for free. It is good for testing, but two things make it a poor place to produce your content. First, the API has no free image output, and the API is what an automated workflow would use. Second, Google says it uses what you do on the free tier to improve its products. Think about that before you build a character there that you want to own.

Open-source tools: free software, but you need a graphics card

ComfyUI is licensed under GPL-3.0 and supports NVIDIA, AMD, Intel and Apple Silicon GPUs. “Runs fully offline: core does not download anything unless you request it.”

Z-Image-Turbo is released under the Apache 2.0 licence, and the model card says it “fits comfortably within 16G VRAM consumer devices”.

Hugging Face — Z-Image-Turbo model card (opens in a new tab)checked

“Released under the apache-2.0 licence, the model can be used for personal, scientific, and commercial purposes.”

Hugging Face — FLUX.1 [schnell] model card (opens in a new tab)checked

This is the one way that is really free to run for a business. The software is open, the model’s licence allows commercial use, and you do not pay per image. You still pay, but in other places: for a graphics card with around 16 GB of memory, for the electricity to run it, and with the hours it takes to learn a node-based tool. If you already own that card, this is as close to free as this niche gets. If you do not, the free way starts with buying hardware. What an AI influencer costs to start compares that with paying per image.

FLUX.1 [dev] needs a licence for business use

Output may be used “for any purpose (including for commercial purposes), except as expressly prohibited herein”. The model itself is licensed for non-commercial purposes, meaning uses where “you do not receive any direct or indirect payment arising from the use of the FLUX [dev] Model”, which excludes revenue-generating activity. Any use the licence does not authorise, “such as for a commercial activity”, requires a licence from Black Forest Labs.

Black Forest Labs — FLUX [dev] Non-Commercial License v2.0 (opens in a new tab)checked

If you read it quickly, “output may be used for commercial purposes” sounds like you are allowed to build a paid persona with it. The full text says something different if your persona earns money. You may sell the images. But running the model to make them for a business is not non-commercial use, so the free licence does not cover it. This is a reading of the licence text. It is not legal advice. If you want to earn money, use the Apache 2.0 models above. They allow commercial use. Hosted video tools raise the same question with different answers per plan: AI video commercial use compares Kling, Seedance and Hailuo.

What the sources do not say

Pricing a zero-cost stack without owning a GPU

People search for a version of this article that ends with a stack that costs nothing and earns money. That stack was put together piece by piece for this article. Without hardware, it does not exist.

Every hosted option ended with a price per image. WaveSpeedAI’s credits are a trial, and Google’s image models have no free image output on the API. Every option without a price per image needed a local graphics card. And FLUX.1 [dev], the one popular model that looks free to use for a persona, needs a commercial licence once the persona earns.

So the answer comes with one condition: it is free to run for a business if you already own the card. If a page promises more than that, it is describing a trial, or a licence that was not read to the end.

Social and Fanvue accounts are free to open

Fanvue says creating an account “is simple and only requires 15 minutes of your time, your ID, and a device with a camera”, and that verification needs a form of ID and a high-quality selfie.

The 85% earning rate offered to creators who joined Fanvue in 2022 has come to an end, and the platform is transitioning to its standard 80% rate.

Social accounts cost nothing to open. Fanvue (affiliate link, opens in a new tab) lists an ID and a camera in its sign-up steps. It does not list a payment. Fanvue takes its share from what fans pay. At the standard rate you keep 80 of every 100 dollars. That suits a free start, because you pay nothing until fans pay you. Fees apply when you withdraw and on chargebacks. The payout calculator shows what that rate means for a monthly target.

How to start for free, step by step

  1. Find the look for free. Use AI Studio or the WaveSpeedAI credits to try models and decide on the face.
  2. Choose the production route before you build the character. Either you use a hosted tool and pay per image, or you generate locally on a card you own. If you switch later, you have to build the consistent face again from zero.
  3. If you go local, pick a model that allows commercial use. Use Z-Image-Turbo or FLUX.1 [schnell]. Do not use FLUX.1 [dev] without a licence.
  4. Open the accounts once the face stays the same. The accounts are free. But a profile full of pictures where the face keeps changing is hard to repair later.

Step 2 is hard to undo, so look at the whole plan before you decide. How to make an AI influencer puts these decisions in order. When free is no longer enough, AI OFM tools sorts the rest of the stack by what each tool does.

Questions people ask

Can you make an AI influencer for free?

You can start for free. Open-source software, models with an open licence and the accounts you need cost nothing. Earning with it is rarely free. For that you need a graphics card that can run the models, or you pay for generation once the free credits and free testing run out.

Is there a free AI influencer generator?

There are free credits and free testing. WaveSpeedAI gives $1 of credits on signup, and Google says Google AI Studio is free of charge. That is enough to try a look. It is not enough to build a consistent character across hundreds of images.

Can I use FLUX.1 dev for a monetised AI influencer?

You may use its outputs commercially. But the model itself is licensed for non-commercial use, and under the licence, activity that earns revenue does not count as non-commercial. If you run it to make content for a business, you need a commercial licence from Black Forest Labs. FLUX.1 schnell is Apache 2.0 and allows commercial use.

What does Fanvue cost to start?

Fanvue's sign-up steps ask for about 15 minutes, an ID and a device with a camera. They do not ask for a payment. Fanvue takes its share from what fans pay: the standard creator earning rate is 80%.
